About the venue and Cambridge

About the venue

All the Symposium activities will be conducted in Robinson College's custom-built conference facilities.

About Robinson College
Robinson College is the most recently built college (1979) of the University of Cambridge. The College has sufficient accommodation for all Symposium delegates, and nowhere is more than a minute or so's walk from the lecture theatres and dining facilities. Robinson College benefits from modern facilities - yet it is only a very pleasant 7–8 minutes walk through the historic 'Backs' to the River Cam and the centre of medieval Cambridge, which has many and varied attractions.

About the University of Cambridge
Every student member of the University must also be a member of one of the 31 Colleges, which are self-governing and independent from the University. Peterhouse, the oldest college was founded in 1284. The University of Cambridge is world famous for its research and teaching. Amongst many others these world-class researchers include Harvey (discovery of blood circulation), Darwin (theory of evolution), Newton (mathematician and discoverer of gravity), JJ Thomson (discovery of the electron), Rutherford (understanding of atomic structure), Sanger (structure of insulin and nucleic acid base sequencing), Klug (crystallographic electron microscopy), Perutz (3-D structure of proteins) and Watson & Crick (structure of DNA).

About Cambridge

Cambridge is only about 100 km (60 miles) north-east of London and is easily reached by public transport. It is a 'high-tech' city (in 'silicon fen') but with medieval origins. It is a delightful place to work, study or just visit, and ideal for a Symposium of this size. Cambridge offers many cultural facilities and an interesting shopping district.

Climate and what to wear!
Dress for the Symposium will be informal. In April, Cambridge usually has a mild spring climate, but you would be advised to bring some warm clothing and be prepared for some rain. You can find some details of Cambridge weather (past and present) here.
