Being part of the EuroScience Week 2001, the Vinci-Darwin-Linnaeus event shared its major goal "to demonstrate and explain the impact of science, its uses, and its applications in the daily lives of European citizens." The Florence science forum combined the efforts of three traditional partners from Italy, United Kingdom and Sweden within already established collaboration in an initiative at an European level. The three charismatic historical figures of Leonardo da Vinci, Darwin and Linnaeus were chosen by each country to symbolically represent and justify the motto of the Push 2001: "Toward a New Renaissance in Science." In accordance with this motto the PUSH goal was to contribute in returning to science its integral holistic character and restoring its connection with the other disciplines studying life and natural world in general, as well as with art. While fulfilling the general EuroScience Week plan of promoting and popularising science through a variety of activities, the PUSH project has found its own way to uniquely contribute into the process of enforcing science’s value and prestige. It developed and carried out six workshops for training science teachers of secondary and high schools. Several of the workshops were based on Bio-Chemiluminescence confirming the important role of this phenomenon as an educational tool.
